Intermediate-level practice text for students planning to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language.
English as a Second Language students who wish to matriculate into American or Canadian universities usually take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). To pass, a student's English language ability must be at the high intermediate or advanced level. Intermediate TOEFL Practices provides basic practice materials for intermediate-level students by providing concrete suggestions regarding each part of the examination (listening, writing, reading comprehension, and vocabulary) as well as general test taking strategies. The format of the text is patterned after the format of the actual TOEFL.
Unlike other TOEFL preparation books available, the language used in Folse's text is aimed at intermediate-level EFL students. The text mirrors the seven sections included in the actual TOEFL, with each section providing ten practices, and each practice consisting of ten questions. Thus, there are one hundred questions for each of the seven sections. Additionally, there are three full-length practice TOEFLs at the end of the text.
A cassette tape and teacher's edition are also available.
Keith S. Folse is Head Instructor in English and Spanish, English Language Academy, Japan.
