Civil wars and ethnic strife on the one hand and the increasing economic gulf between the haves and have-nots on the other are bringing migration to the forefront of policy concerns in many countries. In bringing together leading economists to discuss the issue, this volume is thus exceptionally timely.
Each year the Kiel Institute gathers a group of leading scholars from around the world to discuss an issue of current importance. The 1993 conference focused on migration. The papers and comments are collected in this volume.
