GAME SELECTION INFORMATION
THIS YEAR'S SCHEDULE
HOW GAME SELECTION WORKS
For Ambercon 2008 we will be using the same ranking system as before. Each member will get to prioritize their game choices in each slot, and will also prioritize the slots themselves.
For example, slot 1 offers five games:
You get to select any or all of these games in the order of your preference to play in them.
Example:
Slot 1:
Choice 1 - Deirdre vs Flora
Choice 2 - Corwin's Corny Cavaliers
Choice 3 - and so on.
We ask that you only select games that you are willing to play if you get in. For you that may only be one game in slot 1, while you may be willing to play every game in slot 5. Keep in mind, though, that if you only put down one game for a slot, and don't get into it, that will leave you with no game for that slot.
Then you rank the slots themselves, in the order of their importance to you. So the slot that contains the game(s) you want to play in most of any slot would be ranked 1, the one that's just a little less important would be ranked 2, etc. When we process the game selections, we will do so in the following order: GMs will be scheduled into the game they gave first priority, in the slot they gave first priority. If that game isn't available, we'll try their second choice for that slot, etc. Then we do the same for the volunteers, then everyone else who got their selections in on time. Then we repeat the process with the GMs' first priority game in their second ranked slot, then volunteers, then everyone else, and so on for the remaining slots. This way, GMs and volunteers have a slight edge, to thank them for their help (the Con wouldn't exist without them), but it is possible for other members to get into a game in a slot they've ranked highly ahead of a GM or volunteer who ranked that slot lower. If you aren't already a volunteer, you can become one by contacting volunteers@ambercon.com, then selecting the volunteer option on the game selection form as the first choice for the slot you and the volunteer coordinator agree on.
Games that are for returning players only can be found at the end of the listing for each slot. This is so people who aren't in those campaigns don't have to read descriptions for games they won't be able to play in. Now, for some continuing campaigns, you'll find that there are two entries in the game book - one in the open section for that slot, and one in the returning players only section. These are ongoing campaigns that have a few slots open to new players. If you are a returning player in this campaign, you should sign up for the game that's listed in the returning player section. If you want to become a new player in the campaign, you should sign up for the game that's listed in the open section.
Our goal is to be fair, and get everyone into as many of their first choice games as we can. Unfortunately, people who send their selections in after the deadline will be scheduled after everyone else. We're not doing this to be mean, it's simply that we schedule all the game selections that we have received on the day after the deadline. (So please get your stuff in on time!) If you have further questions about this system, please feel free to e-mail us at game_selections@ambercon.com.
Got all that? Now check out the Game Book. Then fill out the online game selection form.
If you have trouble getting the online game selection form to work, there is also a PDF form you can download, fill out and mail in. The online form is the preferred method, however - it gets to us faster and there's less chance of error.
