It goes something like this:

While nosing at Akhan's pouch, the Renyu says, "Thing good."

Kemuel pushes the Renyu back. "Get out of the way."

Shekkara, who has by now some experience with communicating with Akhan's renyu, asks, "What do you mean by thing good?"

Renyu: "Thing good!" They check Akhan's pouch and find an Eye.

"Thing Good!" the Renyu insists.

"Hmm.. an Eye..." Shekkara says and toys with it.

"You're not going to use an unknown eye on him!" Kemuel says, shocked.

"Oh, I don't know. I don't see how it can make things worse than they already are," Shekkara says, but hesitates to use the Eye.

"THING GOOD!" the Renyu wails as Akhan's life continues to slip away.

Akhan's slave Sot remembers just then what the eye is and, unable to bring himself to address a Tlakotani even when his master is dying, says to a sailor, "Please inform the lady that Akhan carries an eye of healing."

Shekkara, unwilling to wait for this message to be passed up the ranks to her lest Akhan's current breath be his last, exclaims, "Ohe! The Renyu means that this eye will help Akhan!" and she uses the eye on him.

Akhan is instantly healed and opens his eyes.

The Renyu sounds somewhat annoyed. "SAID thing good."
